The star name will be listed
by the Universal Star Listing in the international star register
called "A Personal Guide to the Universe". From
the earliest times people gave names to the stars they saw
in the night sky, and wove stories around them, such as the
famous legends of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Other cultures
gave them other names. More recently, astronomers gave numbers
to the stars as they mapped them. The name you give your star
will not affect its scientific naming. The Universal Star
Listing is symbolic, not scientific, but the names are recorded
for all time and lodged in the British Library and legal deposit
libraries. Present and future generations may therefore look
up the star name in the register and locate the star in the
sky, using binoculars or a telescope.
